Weekend recap: Pilot Point almost statebound

At the start of the weekend, two area baseball teams and two area softball teams were still in the hunt to reach the state tournament.

At the end of the weekend, Pilot Point’s softball team was the lone team still clinging to state tournament aspirations.

Pilot Point is one of eight teams left in the Class 2A playoffs after the Lady Cats swept Commerce in the 2A regional semifinals. Sanger’s softball team was eliminated by Van, while Krum and Argyle’s teams got knocked out of the 3A baseball playoffs.

Ty Damron — 17 Ks, 0 hits, 1 amazing game

Krum's Ty Damron fanned 17 batters and pitched a no-hitter against Celina last night . Krum won 11-0 and advanced to the area round of the playoffs.

Can we just talk about what happened last night?

No, I’m not referencing what happened on American Idol  or Grey’s Anatomy (if people still watch those shows).

Last night in the opening round of the Class 3A playoffs, Krum lefty pitcher Ty Damron struck out 17 batters and pitched an abbreviated no-hitter in a 11-0 victory over Celina.

Since Krum scored four runs in the top of the sixth inning and the Bobcats were leading by more than 10 runs, the game was called after the sixth, so Damron didn’t  get to pitch all seven innings.

But let’s dwell on this for a little bit.
