From the opening whistle, Fossil Ridge has absolutely dominated today’s Class 5A Division II regional semifinal.
The Panthers lead Ryan 31-7 here at Apogee Stadium, and unless something drastic happens in the second half, Ryan’s season will be over this afternoon.
Fossil Ridge has controlled every aspect of this game. Fossil Ridge is outgaining Ryan 244-91, and only failed to score once in the first half. The Raiders didn’t pick up a first down until the 2:18 mark in the second quarter.
By that point, it was already 31-0.
On Ryan’s final drive of the first half, Ryan picked up its first touchdown on a 1-yard quarterback sneak by Mitchell Bridges. Ryan was in a no-huddle offense, and that was the best the Raiders have looked all day.
After a 14-yard run by running back Maurice Gordon, the Raiders looked like they were playing with energy for the first time today. Ryan couldn’t capitalize on a terribly-fielded punt by Fossil Ridge’s Ryan Parker, and the Raiders were forced to punt.
Fossil Ridge quarterback has completed 14 of 16 passes for 150 yards and three touchdowns. Gnacinski also has nine carries for 55 yards.
Ryan quarterback Mitchell Bridges is 6-of-11 for 27 yards and an interception.
Everything that’s plagued Ryan all season – ill-timed penalties, a shaky pass defense, offensive inconsistency – culminated in one half for Ryan.
Ryan was able to comeback from a 13-point deficit to beat Midway and advance to today’s contest. But this week’s task is much more difficult, and if the Raiders somehow manage to make this a ballgame, it might one of the most impressive things Ryan head coach Joey Florence has done in 14 seasons.
