So, in today's editions of The Dallas Morning News, Brandon George wrote a story in advance of Monday's realignment, which both myself and Matthew Muench will be attending at Birdville. Brandon's story is the first I've seen in any print whatsoever that says Guyer will stay at Class 4A with confidence. So yeah, I'm saying I'll be surprised if Guyer heads into Tuesday as a Class 4A school for the next two years. Every prediction I've seen has the Wildcats moving up to Class 5A, even though that would require the 5A cutoff to drop for the first time in ages. Guyer's enrollment number of 2,074 is smaller than the cutoff was two years ago, so based on that alone, it would seem Guyer is safe. Yes, I call it safe because make no mistake, the Wildcats' athletic programs will struggle at Class 5A, and I don't think any of them are trying to say otherwise. The football team would be a very competitive, but it wouldn't be a dominant district champion and make runs to the state semifinals. I see it being more of a one, maybe two and done deal in the postseason. Ryan folks know the pains of moving up as the Raiders did the same thing in the mid-2000s. I could also see Guyer's soccer programs, and possibly softball remaining successful at 5A, but every other sport would struggle mightily. That's why everyone in the Guyer community is crossing their fingers that when those districts are released tomorrow at 9 a.m., they will still be in Class 4A. And that is starting to seem more likely than it might have last month. I sent John Walsh a text asking for his final prediction. He's been telling me 5A all along and has prepared as if he'll be 5A next year. His response? "4A". Time will tell. We will see soon. We'll be hoping for an all-Denton ISD district once again because covering more districts just isn't fun. And of course, there's always that Guyer-Ryan showdown we all love so much. It won't be happening if Guyer moves up. Keep up with the events tomorrow morning from Matt and I. We will try to post some updates, and check the facebook page as I'll definitely be able to do stuff there from my glorious Apple machine known as an iPhone. Remember, just search "Denton Record-Chronicle High School Sports Blog" on Facebook and become a fan, that way you won't miss a thing! Until tomorrow... E-mail entry: |

I can understand the Keller and Saginaw teams and NW, but seems it would have made more sense to be with the LISD teams than Coppell and SLC. Much shorter drive to FM than to Coppell. Oh well, at least no trips to WF for 2 years.
I know for a FACT that Coach Florence has declined to play a pre-season game with Guyer next year. Now that Guyer is officially 5A, what's the freakin problem?!?!?! What could possibly be the excuse now?? Like I've said all along, play your cross town rival!!! The spotlight is on you Flo, so just agree to get whipped one more time.....for old time sake.
Uncle Rico you need to get a life! Coach Flo was 3-2 against Guyer. No need for two top programs to beat each other up before district.
Uncle Rico, why doesn't Walsh try and schedule 5A schools! I mean, Guyer seems to be pretty proud to have beaten up on 4A schools the past couple of years when they lied about the enrollment numbers to stay out of 5A. Guyer would have been getting their rears handed to them in 5A the past two years.
LOL... right on ncloty!!! Uncle Rio, you are stupid.
Wow, you got me there ldfan. And LOL??? Did you really say LOL??? Here's an idea: you and your DHS lover ncloty lay off the meth and go back in to your trailer houses. This blog is for folks that have all their teeth and have at least a high school diploma. And another thing, we aren't even talking about lake dallas- so just be happy with playing at your little stadium with all the cast from Deliverance in attendance on the home side.
