The game started unquestionably in Guyer's favor. The Wildcats got a big punt return that set up a one-play scoring drive and Guyer's defense pitched two straight three-and-outs to open the game with sacks on each of the drives. Then everything turned around. Ryan scored on three straight drives and Guyer went on an offensive drought thanks to some uncharacteristically sloppy play and punted three straight times. Then at the end of the half, Guyer got on track with two scoring drives and picked off Scotty Young in the end zone to close the half, so we have a 22-21 Ryan lead at the break. I think both teams are settled in now, so the second half should be very entertaining, as if the first half wasn't. I think what stands out most to me is you have to give Ryan a ton of credit for the way they bounced back after the first two offensive drives, that could have killed their confidence, but it didn't. And now they have a halftime lead. Guyer is 4-for-7 on third downs, and Ryan is 2-for-6. Guyer was 0-for-3 before reeling off four straight conversions at the end of the half. J.W. Walsh has 7 carries for 60 yards and three scores. He's 8-for-11 passing with a TD For Ryan, Kaylon Alexander has 5 carries for 51 yards, which are very respectable numbers against this Guyer defense. Scotty Young is 13-of-21 for 133 yards and a pick to go with his two TDs. Ryan got the big special teams play from Will Clark on a 47-yard punt return for a score to get Ryan on the board for the first time. E-mail entry: |
