There wasn't a whole lot of action in Week 5 as the six-team districts typically take their byes in Week 5, but it's only the calm before the storm as we have plenty of good matches up coming in the next two weeks.
Ryan 58, Denton 14
The second half of this game featured seven drives, one being a one-play drive where Denton scored on the first play. Why were there so few drives? Because both teams were trying to end the game before it got out of hand, because this was an embarrassing mismatch. That's not the way it's suppose to be in a three-high school district.
Wichita Falls Rider 31, Guyer 28
Guyer again showed some grit by making this game after falling behind in third quarter. I'm not trying to take anything away from Guyer, because this was another example of the Wildcats being a legitimate playoff contender, but at what point do we start considering Rider overrated? That was suppose to roll through this district, and they have two wins all season by a combined six points.
Lake Dallas 42, Wichita Falls 21
Speaking of overrated Wichita Falls teams, the Coyotes were suppose to be an easy pick to make the playoffs. Now they're a team that takes its frustrations out on poor Denton. As for Lake Dallas, we'll find out a lot about the Falcons in the next two weeks as it hosts Ryan on Friday and then takes on Guyer.
Aubrey 35, Fort Worth Southwest Christian 14
The Chaps were up-and-down in nondistrict play, but after this thumping of Southwest, Aubrey enters 10-2A play with a 3-2 record. This was clever scheduling on Daryl Hellman's part as it gives the Chaps some confidence heading into district. The best thing to come out of nondistrict for Aubrey: Chase Bray. The Chaps have a quarterback. That will take them a long way.

Jeff, here is a random question, and before the LD folks get their panties in a bunch, it is just a general what if. If Guyer wins out, Ryan does as well and Rider looses to The Colony and LD(possible withut QB), the last game would be for the title. The question is would the DISD move the game to Texas Stadium? There are 2 reasons I can think of why it would be a good idea. First, money as Collins could not hold all the folks for that one, and 2nd, a chance for the teams to get a taste of what a playoff atmosphere will be like. Ryan knows, but it would help Guyer especially since they have never experienced anything like that. What do you think?

I think you should take it one game at a time, before worrying about playing for a title. There's still a lot of ball left to be played.

Observor, that is why it is just a question as to how DISD thinks in these type things. I have no expectations except to win this week. After that you'll get no bet's from me!

Wildcat Dad,
I seriously doubt DISD would move Ryan-Guyer. I think Denton would rather play all its games at Bronco Field, but the only time that request has been granted to my knowledge was for Denton's 2006 homecoming, which was the school's 50th anniversary celebration. C.H. Collins costed a lot of money and in some circles, it is considered a disappointment. Moving a game between two DISD schools that has major playoff implications seems like it would defeat the purpose of having a big-time stadium.

Well the timing for CH Collins was right, and nobody could control or predict the 'off' years in Denton Football. With another high school opening up (Guyer-- and another one planned), and Bronco Stadium not even having the capacity for Denton/Ryan games it was time for a new stadium. Of course people won't want to watch a football game in an area with something else to offer on a friday night, when the best team only does a little better than .500.
The AD and school district made a good decision by building a sports venue on par with the best in the state, and now that Guyer and Ryan are having success it will start filling up like everyone thought it was going to.

Keep it at C.H. Collins. I have never seen that stadium at full capacity. Nothing like a standing room only crowd on Friday night. The stadium has a capacity for 12,000. If they expect more than that then Foutz field would be an option. The game needs to stay in Denton.
Plus it would be great for a high school team to pull in more fans than UNT.
