Guyer, Ryan getting love from Dave Campbell's

Thanks to Wildcat Dad for pointing this out...

Our friends over at Dave Campbell's Texas Football, otherwise known as the bible of Texas high school football, have come out with their midseason reports for every classification in the state.

Pay close attention to the 4A report and you'll notice that Ryan QB Scotty Young is the Region I midseason MVP. Everything on this report is just through four weeks, but now the junior has 1,707 yards and 27 touchdowns to go with just six interceptions through five games.

Also, Guyer was predicted to be in the Region I final, losing to Wolfforth Frenship, which I have to say is a bit crazy sounding, but we'll see how it plays out. Regardless of what happens, there's no doubt Guyer has made tremendous strides this year and has surprised a lot of folks -- seemingly everyone except the Guyer Wildcats.

Also, pay attention to the coaches of the year. The top coaching job in all of 4A? John Walsh. Pretty impressive stuff, right there. The guy who used to head up the laughing stock is now seen as the best coach in 4A in the state of Texas midway through the season by one of the most respected high school football publications in the land.

Oh, and Ryan is also listed as one of the "unranked teams to watch" down the stretch this year. I, for one, find it hard to believe they aren't even in the "others receiving votes" but I guess it's hard to get in the state poll when you have a loss.

What are y'alls midseason thoughts on what we've seen so far? MVP? Biggest surprise? Biggest disappointment?

Oh, and check out these awesome videos...

You decide.

Im not surprised that Scotty is the MVP at all. He is a fantastic QB and no one has numbers like him. The only player close to him is Zach Lee and he is amazing as well. Sadly enough, both of these players have huge potential in Baseball and could possibly not even extend their football careers into college.

To tag onto Devin's thoughts, Scotty can throw a fastball through a brick wall. He really needs to skip baseball this Spring and concentrate on football:)

Adam, I love both those, too bad Colt is going to win it!

Sanger also got some love. Check it out.

I dont see why he would need to do that thought? Everyone said that him not playing 7 on 7 would hurt him then he came out and has ridiculous numbers. Also, Guyer's QB hurt himself during 7 on 7. Stick with Baseball in the Spring Scotty!

how can coach walsh get recognition for being a good coach last time i checked recruiting for highschool is illegal...so sure lets give a coach an accolade and respect that he hasnt earned ...earl campbell is obviously not the texas highschool football bible...get real

Devin, apparently you lack the ability to see humor through your Raider colored glasses. That is a joke, as a parent of a Guyer football AND baseball player, referring to it would benefit Guyer if he does not play!!

Haha yeah DHS will have problems with Scotty as well.

FYI im a DHS Alum, not ryan

Posted by Wildcat Dad @ 11:29 AM Wed, Oct 08, 2008

DHS should be pretty good in baseball this eyar. Hunter, if he can still walk can play SS and pitch also, plus you have several other good pitchers.
But we digress, it is all about football right now!

Posted by Devin @ 6:57 PM Wed, Oct 08, 2008

Amen to that! I just wish DHS has a line over 200lbs and less than 40% of the passes droped. The season would be goin alot better

I'm sorry but I'm not buying into this poor DHS you alumni keep bringing up. I know for a fact that there is several quality student - athlete's, big students (basketball included) that elected not to play football for DHS. Even as freshmen last year they were hesitant to play. DHS has talent that chose not to play football this year.

Every High School has students walking the halls who could be playing sports but choose not to play. Every High School has x-players who hate the coaching staff. Its been like this for years. DHS was put in this position not at the fault of Guyer but at the falt of the School leaders. DHS is not winning its just the facts.

Well as a HS football player once myself, If you love football, and want to play, it doesn't matter who is coaching or what your record is. This is Texas HS Football. Real athletes play because they love the game. So if there are a few players who decided not to play because of a coach or what have it, then they shouldn't be playing anyway. Athletes who want to play, play no matter what. We dont have those types of players, they all were taken.

DHS needs new coaches, there are students who could play but do not face it! Sure would be nice to see DHS become more competitive. They have the talent but they are out of shape and lazy. Where does that point a finger at?

Walsh is a joke - never should win anything for being a good coach. I agree with the recruit statement. He pushes out weak players for the recruits he wants. He is dirty and teaches dirty. I have heard from players parents who know he pushes players to do whatever it takes. Testing needs to take place. Parents Open your eyes!

Scotty - do what you love to do - dont let anyone make that choice for you...even Flo. Play the game you Love!

DHS Players are not lazy. They are players who thank god are keeping DHS football alive. These players are Heros because most kids would have quit as most do when times get tough. These players have to listen to everyone say how bad they are and a news paper that never gives them credit for hanging in their. Keep your heads up DHS players and sometimes the best lessons in life are the toughest.

Amen football fan...

Hammer, Walsh comes from a school that the weight room is a second home for most athletes and he brought that technique with him. Testing, you say, go for it. You have no clue what you are talking about and there is no coach that cares for his players more than Coach Walsh with their well being and their studies. Maybe you should be tested.

Posted by Josh @ 1:26 PM Fri, Oct 10, 2008

Guyer actually was one of the few schools who were tested in the new program. Only 2 athletes in the whole state tested positive and none were at Guyer.

Posted by Hammer @ 3:03 PM Fri, Oct 10, 2008

Here's an idea. Send GHS Coaches to DHS and DHS Coach to GHS next year. Then lets see if it is the coaches, facilities or quality/quantity of players.

Posted by wesley @ 3:10 PM Fri, Oct 10, 2008

acatfan...coach does care about well being and their studies....he pressure teachers to drop scores to improve grades....that puts them on his field friday night but what good does that do the kids...give me a break!
