Checking in with our old 5-4A friends tonight, I heard this nugget. Denison, which was a team on the rise last year before realignment took them and Sherman to the Frisco/McKinney district, has already whipped Wichita Falls this year and is 5-0 on the season. The Yellow Jackets' junior running back D.J. Jones, who's only played in four full games this year due to a first-half suspension in the opener and blowouts that took him out of two fourth quarters, had a game tonight that will go down in Texas prep lore. The speedster led Denison to a 65-64 win over McKinney with 12 carries for 272 yards and four scores -- at halftime. Three of his first five runs went for touchdowns of 70, 77 and 73 yards. He finished the game with...drumroll... 30 carries for 434 yards, 7 rushing touchdowns and one receiving touchdown on a 27-yard screen pass -- his lone reception. Entering the night, he had 711 yards and 11 touchdowns. Do the math. Everyone who's been a reader of this blog knows how much I enjoy watching Sherman's Waymon James, but Jones might be better, and he still has another year to play. Now I know why all the 5-4A coaches were so eager to get rid of Sherman and Denison. Sure, they got James Franklin & Co., but those guys are just too much to deal with. Again I say, 434 yards on 30 carries. In case you're wondering, that's more than 14 yards a carry. |

Coach worth a look at this Junior RB. They play good football at Denison.

I would guess that playing at UNT is out of the question.

Adam, I for one am happy not to be with them anymore. Dennison plays solid and James is a stud. 434 in one night is incredible! Hell, that's a big game for us, total offense wise.
He may be the next Bobbie Myles.

Make the Boobie, from Friday Night Lights fame. Dang spelling.
