What do you do if you're Randy Patzkowski? Final: Lake Dallas 42, Wichita Falls 21 What can I say? This is not an even playing field Something awful in the water here Categories

1. John Walsh was really angry with himself after that game. He feels he lost them the game. I tend to think it was a botched punt and a defensive lapse in the third quarter, but he has a point. Assuming everything else was equal, Guyer could've tied the game at the end had they gone for two to make it 31-15 and gotten two more 2-pt conversions. 2. This Guyer team is incredibly scrappy. It appeared it just wasn't their night after Rider went up 31-7 after the Wildcats played toe-to-toe with the Raiders in the first half to a 14-7 deficit, which should've been a 14-7 lead for Guyer. 3. The naysayers need to admit they're wrong. Guyer just battled one of the top teams in all of 4A (despite their record) to the bitter end. Next week's game at Denton is a win, which will have Guyer at 5-1 heading into the matchup with Lake Dallas, which at best will be 5-1. 4. Again, this run defense is one of the best around. To hold Rider's potent rushing attack to 34 yards on 20 carries is insane. If there was any doubt about the quality of rushing teams Guyer has contained, that doubt can now be wiped off the planet. 5. Guyer's secondary showed a lot tonight too. With the exception of the third-quarter lapse in play and fire, as Walsh said, the secondary had some big plays. Josh Stewart, the pint-sized cornerback, had two break-ups, one of which saved a touchdown and the other would've been a touchdown for Guyer had he caught it. Sure, Ward had 106 yards, but Ward is going to have more than that many times this year. He's probably the best high school receiver I've ever seen, not to mention that Walsh has seen. 6. This team still hasn't played a pretty game. Guyer committed another 10 penalties for 75 yards. One negated a touchdown late in the game. They went on to score anyway, but it took another minute off the clock. That would've been very valuable to have. That's four of five games with at least 10 penalties. If that number could be cut in half, Guyer might not lose again, if being the key word. The problem with bad snaps is also still plaguing the team and must be remedied. |

Guyer is a better than everyone thought, and Rider isnt the power house everyone thought. Guyers offense needs balance but the defense is really good against the run, and did a great job in the 4th keeping the ball in their offense's hands. Rider can not finish a game, they havent done it yet this year and are lucky not to be 0-5. I think Guyer is a playoff team this year and Rider is over rated but still a playoff team, this is a good district.

Guyer is not going to open up there offense for one reason... because the coaches son is not the QB. Once he comes back we will get to see how we move it down the field. He is not going to let anyone show passing ability and look better then his own. I hope he will let his selfishness not get in the way of all the kids hard work. GUYER open up your offense..you have some kids that can do that... if his boy comes back then fine. But be fair to the team. Running is good but its not the only damn offense in football. Passing is to!

After not playing for 6 weeks and in a cast part of that time how effective can a soph with one game of varsity time be.

Mr. Truth...Do you actually think that any coach would consciously not play those players that would best allow his team to win? Come on! His livelihood rests with the success or failure of his team. I just don't believe that a coach would not do whatever necessary to win every ball game, no matter how long his son will be out of the lineup. Coach Walsh wants to win and is doing a fabulous job with the kids he has on hand at this time. Your criticism is unwarranted.

Truth...you are a selfish piece of crap. What number is your son? I'm guessing it's a kid that's not getting enough passes thrown his way to satisfy dad- who needs it more than the kid. Last I checked, football is a team sport. You're an idiot to think Coach Walsh is holding back the offense.

birdman, uncle rico....or are you coach walsh! I agree with "The Truth"...history shows it. Walsh has been waiting for this opportunity to let his son take the field. Honestly, its too early. The kid is good but needs more time behind the ball on JV. The QB on the field last night showed much more maturity on the field and can take the Team further If only given the chance!! He is the Ticket this Season for Guyer If WALSH would let it happen!! But unfortuantely, he won't....and thats a shame and yes Walsh would do that!

Good young team! Played very well except for five minutes (2qtr last two minutes, 3qtr first three minutes)once they learn how to win they are going to win a lot of games. In 2 qtr had a chance to make two big plays and they just could not bring home the long pass. Good Luck this season!

last i checked that 5 minute portion of the game counts. rider, as is there character, thought they had the game in hand and relaxed. guyer was lucky to get back in it, but give em props for doing it. still a loss, still a questionable playoff team in my mind. Ryan and LD will both hand them 20 pt losses so if they can beat ol' high they will make it otherwise see ya next year. Ryan will not lose again until late in the playoffs if at all.

The idea is to catch the ball....missed opportunities lost the game! I like the QB myself #17! He just needs someone to catch the ball.

I second RAIDERSRULE!!! See ya Nov 6th ...20 pts plus!!!

I don't know the situation at Guyer but I do know that there is only one thing that out weights a coaches will to win (even at the cost of his job)and that is his parental instincts. After all, he is human, just like the rest of us. It's always a bad situation when the head coach has a child that is playing on the same team that he is coaching and if you don't think he cares weather his son shines on his team or not, think again. HE CARES. Now, I'm not saying that all coaches in this situation will allow their natural instincts to dictate their decision making but you can bet they all have to fight with it. After all, they've got MOM to deal with as well once they get home...
This makes you want to re-think Little Elms situation...

Adam, I agree with you. Guyer is for real and the rest of the district teams left to play them had better be bringing their "A GAME" or they'll be goin home with their tails tucked..

As a parent of a player, I will say right now anyone alleging Walsh is not doing everything he can to win is a fool. I have gotten to be friends with John, and he has the programs interest first. He calls plays that may seem like a stupid 2 yard throw, but it was supposed to be a different play that a mistake killed, usually a breadown in protection. He is working his butt off for all our boys and we are very fortunate to have him. Also, remember, #17 has not played QB since 8th grade, and part time then so the package has to be a little limited. I think he has done a great job when you consider he has been at corner for the last 3 years.
Tom, you are right on point, this team is going places this year.

To TheTruth and DentonResident. You must not have ever played a sport of any kind or if you did, you would know that a true coach/athlete all he thinks about is winning in any compacity. Have you seen Coach Walsh with these kids or have you looked at these kids? They have been primed to not give up. Who do you think brought the weight program to them? They ALL want to win, including Coach Walsh.

Tom, ok I'll bite. What is the substance behind this statement "This makes you want to re-think Little Elms situation...". LE has no Father/Son coaching relationship on the team.

Lobo, Last year I believe that Coach Beasly had a son playing quarterback. It is no secret that last years team produced a little more than this years team. Now that Cole is gone, do you think Dad is putting the same effort into his program than he did last year while trying to get his son into a college?

Tom, The Truth, and Denton Resident you have lost your mind. Go back to your day job and blog on something you look credible on. Like 'idiots are us'. Coaches want to win period, leave their kids out of it. Ya'll have da written all over your foreheads.

How the world turns, they win and nothing bad is said but they have a bad 5 minutes in a game and the coach dont want to win. Last time I checked they are 4-1, so somebody wants to win.

I'll support and beleive in Guyer when I see athletes not looking "pumped" up and show a bit more self discipline to the coaches and the opposition....they are winning but they need to do it with Class! A WINNING RECORD DOES NOT MAKE YOU A WINNER!
Posted by LoboCameraman @ 5:29 PM Fri, Oct 03, 2008
Tom, believe me he's putting more into the program, just as he did for the years before his son's played for him at LE. I think plano-x stated it the best, although plano was'nt referencing LE at the time it applies..."I know the coach and the AD personally there, they just are not that good this year.. it happens". My favorite saying applies here...
You are truly clueless....have a better day!

Tom there is a whole thread on team and program building you should read under...Boedeker's 5-4A Power Rankings....I feel that your athlete fits in there somewhere...maybe in need of weights, fundlementals, decipline etc...and you have a complex about it
Posted by LoboCameraman @ 5:39 PM Fri, Oct 03, 2008
Tom I do apologize for that last statement...I've stooped to your level and should not have. Have a good season and stay healthy!

Lobo, I didn't mean to rattle your cage and I am not from LE so I don't know the whole story. I do know one of the parents there and he told me that this is what is being talked about in LE. I also do not have "an athelete", as you put it, that fits in there and you can rest assured that I have no complex. The point that I was trying to make, like it or not, when it comes to a father coaching his own son on a football team, baseball team or any other team, its always going to be difficult for him to balance being a good coach and being a good father. We have all seen it. Some guys lean too much towards being a good coach and is too hard on their own child so not to be looked at as showing favoritism and I've seen this happen when their kid actually deserved the chance to shine. However, more often than not, most guys leans towards being a good father dispite weather his child deserves it or not. Having the title of a "coach" dosn't make you immune to your parental instincs.

Here is an interesting tidbit, just for TheTruth. Dave Campbells mid season review picks Coach Walsh as the 4A state coach of the year. Dang, imagine would he would be if he actually tried to win.
They also pick Scotty Young as Region 1 MVP(Agreed), way to go Scotty, feel free to skip baseball this Spring and concentrate on football.
They also pick Guyer to make the Region 1 final. I'll take that.
