A chance at redemption

No Lake Dallas fan, coach or player can be proud of the way the Falcons' defense played a week ago in their 61-54 loss to Sherman.

But as I said at the time, Sherman running back Waymon James is a special player that you don't see but maybe once a season. I said if they could just stop him they'd be good to go. Obviously that was easier said than done as he scored five times in the shootout.

Of course, one good thing to take from the game was the performance of Lake Dallas' offense, namely quarterback James Franklin, who rushed for close to 200 yards and passed for near 400, nearly 200 of those to receiver Joey Knight.

Sherman was perceived as a one-man team, and the Bearcats proved that was wrong as quarterback Madison Carter played a great game as well.

But now, the Falcons face a team that is, on paper, a better one than Sherman. Red Oak was one of the area's surprises last season and returns a good deal of players from last year's squad, including running back Nic Boyd. Now, he's no Waymon James, that's for sure, but he'll be a good test, and a chance at redemption for Lake Dallas' defense, which was led by linebacker Drew Hamilton last week, who seemed to have his name called on about every other tackle.

I think this game is a toss-up, as was last week's against Sherman, but again I'm picking the Falcons. Hopefully this time they'll make me look smarter than they did last week. I'm sure that's at the top of their priorities heading into tomorrow.

Will Lake Dallas' defense rebound from the poor performance last week, or are the Falcons gutted from last year when they lost their entire secondary and some key players up front?
