BREAKING NEWS: The DR-C 5-4A football preview curse

Well, it's happened. Just like the Sports Illustrated curse or the Madden curse, we've apparently started our own here, unfortunately.

Guyer quarterback J.W. Walsh, who was on the cover of our 5-4A section of the football preview section has been knocked out for a considerable amount of time after suffering further damage to his elbow that was injured in summer 7-on-7 play.

The sophomore, and son of head coach John Walsh, was in excruciating pain after last Thursday's win over Carrollton Newman Smith, in which he completed 5 of 9 passes for 100 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 94 yards on nine carries and a touchdown in his varsity starting debut.

A chance at redemption

No Lake Dallas fan, coach or player can be proud of the way the Falcons' defense played a week ago in their 61-54 loss to Sherman.

But as I said at the time, Sherman running back Waymon James is a special player that you don't see but maybe once a season. I said if they could just stop him they'd be good to go. Obviously that was easier said than done as he scored five times in the shootout.

Of course, one good thing to take from the game was the performance of Lake Dallas' offense, namely quarterback James Franklin, who rushed for close to 200 yards and passed for near 400, nearly 200 of those to receiver Joey Knight.
