Ryan o-line chatter

There was some criticism of the size of Ryan's offensive line before the season started so I thought some of you guys would find this interesting.

I overheard a phone conversation between two scouts at Ryan's game on Thursday. It went a little something like this:

"Denton Ryan's offensive line is absolutely humongous and they have athletes all over the field."

The unit played well against Mesquite Poteet. Scotty Young was pretty much standing in one spot the whole game.

Zero Week wrap-up

The Denton area had a lot of success in Zero Week, highlighted by Ryan's offensive explosion and Guyer's second win in school history. Let's take a look:

Frisco Centennial 71, Denton 20

Some positives can be found from this game despite the ugly final. Denton's offense should be better this year with Hunter Dozier at quarterback, and he showed some flashes throwing touchdown passes of 52 and 55 yards to Billy McCarty.

Ryan 48, Mesquite Poteet 30
What a debut for Scotty Young, breaking school records for passing yard (462) and touchdown passes (six) in a game. The bad news is Ryan's quick-strike offense put the Pirates on the field enough times to score 30 on the Raiders. A sign of issues to come?

Guyer 31, Carrollton Newman Smith 14

I think it's safe to say Guyer is passed being a new program after this win. I picked Newman Smith to win just based on how many starters it had coming back and the Trojans' experience in Class 5A. Silly me. The Wildcats get a big test next week against Stephenville.
