5-4A Predictions: Andrews Edition Argyle's Parks named Baylor starter Ryan opener could foreshadow season Categories

Well, I didn't have the luxury of being able to hook up like Jeff did. The press box was full of riff-raff, like opposing coaches. But I did come with my laptop, just so you don't think I wasn't prepared. Anyway, here's my thoughts on what I saw tonight as Guyer defeated Midlothian 13-0 in a three-quarter game. First of all, look out for Jaimaine Wilhite. Last season he was kind of a shifty, change-of-pace back to Deandre Wilson, who was a big, bruising change-of-pace back. Needless to say, I don't think it works too terribly well when you have two change-of-pace backs. This year, things appear to be different. Wilhite was extremely quick. For anyone familiar with Ryan girls basketball, you know De'Amber Wilhite and how quick she is. Well, her brother could probably beat her in a race. Just going out on a limb there. He could also beat lots of other football players, and did just that on Friday night. Wilhite busted three runs for 15 or more yards in a matter of about five minutes. He also broke off a screen pass for a 20-yard gain. The Wildcats kept the offense under wraps for the most part, but they did show they can run the football and dominate up front with their mammoth line. As for J.W. Walsh, I already heard rumbles in the stands from parents saying he's being handed the job and so on. That's malarkey. J.W. Walsh completed 5-of-7 passes with a touchdown to the guy who will be Guyer's top receiver this year, Luke Russell. His arm still isn't at full strength after suffering an elbow injury this summer, but John Walsh said before the game that he wouldn't be throwing much this week. There's no doubt J.W. has a lot to learn, as any sophomore would. But there's also no doubt he's way beyond what any sophomore would be doing out there. He'll be asked to manage the game for the Wildcats this year, and he did a fine job of that on Friday. In summation, the Guyer Wildcats will be hard to stop on the ground this season. The O-line appears to finally be legit this year after years of hype based on their size. Wilhite and Wilson are both better than they were last year when they weren't too shabby. Luke Russell will be a dynamic player this year, Matt Mose is tall and can probably out-jump just about any defensive back, and the defense is physical and gained a lot with the return of safety Antonio Burton this year. Let's get ready for Thursday's opener against Carrollton Newman Smith. My early prediction: Guyer will be fighting for that last playoff spot in the district, which is a huge stride for the Wildcats, considering they have one win in two seasons. |

I hope to see the Wildcats offense use more than one QB. They have a couple of options when it comes to QB. With JW not at full strength, opposing defenses will know that the long ball is not a threat and they could pick us apart. Defense is looking very promising.

i hope Guyer beats the crap out of lake dallas. they think there great because they beat red oak haha. do they know who rider and ryan is?

It does not matter how many athletes Guyer has they will still not beat Lake Dallas. LD is very fundamental and physical! Franklin will dominate that game and the Falcons will do just enough to make the playoffs. They have been to the playoffs several years in a row and went a few rounds deep a few years back. This team may be even better. Guyer may be big up front but those two lineman are soft and will not handle the quickness of this entire district.
Rider, Ryan, Ole High and LD will make the playoffs!

Cowboy, I agree about the two big softies. Guyer will win 4-5 games this year. Next year we will win 8+. Not sure LD will make the play offs this year though.

LD is going to wish they never crossed the Real side of a football district... I cant wait to see after they face WF Rider and then Ryan what their fans will have to say... It is easy to talk trash when your district sucked. Plain and simple, coming into this Ditrict of football we will see where they rate... I just can't wait and btw, LD thinks Guyer will be a cake walk... Hold up??? Didnt Guyer just beat Midlothian who's QB signed with Tennessee? Apparently people are scared of the upcoming power house GUYER.. Let me tell otherwise Guyer would not be in half of these blog comments. James Franklin should be a tight end, he is not a QB...especially if they are running him every trip...that means your coaches dont have confidence in what is around him...Try the 1 man show, it didnt work for Guyer last year... After the game is over then you can talk your trash LD.. if you win.

It is very easy for Guyer to talk about how well there football team is. They have alot of kids they play ball. One thing that is not mentioned is they fact they have 5A numbers. When Guyer starts the school year out with 2300 kids, they have an advantage. Its nice to see Denton I.S.D. screw over Ryan and High just so Guyer can excel.
Posted by justanobserver @ 11:37 AM Tue, Aug 26, 2008
Was it the number of kids that has made Guyer sucessful or the number of wins they have racked up over the last two seasons? By the way, I hope your tight end recovers soon.

Its clear Jim you havent been a student of football long enough. It takes alot more than just a few good players to win, it usually takes 22 good young men playing together as a team to win. The teams that have work ethic that eliminate mistakes by being disciplined, win year in year out regardless of the D-1 type talent hype. Individuals dont win state championship teams do

I think it was a scrimmage that Guyer played against Midlothian. Ryan and Rider are good programs, but the rest of the dictrict wasnt that great... (3) teams over 500, surely that wasnt the best in the state. Oh by the way 9 4A had (5) teams over 500 and that district "sucked" according to JIM. The up and comming Powerhouse will be AAAAA in 2010 so good luck adding to your 1-19 record the next 2 years!

guyer's enrollment was in the 2100's...legit 4a numbers...with the re-zoning they will stay 4a for a while...

Guyer will rule the district starting next year and for many years to come. 4-5 wins this year and 8+ next year and beyond. Be afraid be very afraid.

The word on the street has Guyer at 2300-2500 students for the 2008-2009 school year. There are 63 teams in 5A that have less than 2300 students, 42 of them less that 2200 and 17 less than 2100. I believe the cut off is less that 2100 for 4A, 16 schools have more than 2000 students, the largest is 2084 in 4A now. Guyer will be 5A or they will cut the talent pool with re-zoning to keep all the schools
4 A

I got the word from administration that guyer was under 2200. the 4a cutoff is 2180.

this is ridiculous but expected from LD fans. I have watched them in the stands for years and years.. Let the kids play this game and the darn parents need to keep their traps shut. Boils down to one word and the root of all evil. Jealous ...you all need to pray for your words.
Posted by footballfan @ 9:06 PM Tue, Aug 26, 2008
Jealous of what??? there is no evil in pride in your town and school. LD has never played a Denton school in a real game that I know of.
Dont judge people you know nothing about, your ridiculous you need to pray for you judgements

When your boy moves up from the jv team you can give your predictions about Guyer.Until then, let the varsity players have their time.

j4, I don't have a kid in football.I'm just a fan with an objective point of view like you. As for my predictions I was trying to be optimistic about this year when I predicted 4-5 wins. Actually 3 wins is more like it. I stand by next year, 8+ wins.
