TDMN has Ryan at No. 6

Jeff Andrews   E-mail   News tips

The Dallas Morning News released its Class 4A area poll today and your Ryan Raiders are ranked No. 6 going into the 2008 season.

I think this is a fair spot for Ryan. Three teams that dropped from Class 5A (No. 3 Dallas Carter, No. 4 Rockwall and No. 5 Mansfield Timberview) are ranked ahead of the Raiders. That seems reasonable to me.

Everman, which had a phenomenal year in 2007, comes in at No. 2 with 11 starters returning. The Bulldogs should be strong and might make a run at a state title this year.

So what beacon of talent and experience took the top spot? Why Highland Park, of course! With three returning starters and no Division I prospects, the Snots are the OBVIOUS choice to win the state title, which they do like every 50 years or so. Cash over trash, baby!

The only other area team to make the list was Lake Dallas at No. 20. I'm not sure what I think about that yet.

OK, now that that's over with, let's get to the real problem with this list. Waxahachie at No. 16 and below Red Oak? Um, the last time I was chillin' up in 75165, Red Oak was Hachie's obligatory punching bag.

So what do you guys think about this list? Anyone snubbed? Think Ryan should be higher?

Umm, Red Oak is not a team people look at with amazement. District 9-4A only had three winning teams last year: Frisco, LD, and Boyd. That being said, 9-4A was not very good. I'm not saying Lake Dallas isn't good, but it will be interesting to see them play in 5-4A with Rider, Old High, and Ryan. Those three are a little different than Centennial, McKinney North, etc. They had better be ready for a more physical season than they have had to see in the past few years. And as for Guyer, Jeff Andrews didn't even mention them in his blog.

Little Elm had a winning record as well. As did McKinney North.

As a Guyer Dad I would put LD in any poll way before I would put Guyer in one. They have to do something on the field first, and while they should, rankins are based on past production. That said, Ryan is way overated.

RED OAK (10-3) WENT THREE ROUNDS IN THE PLAYOFFS 9-4A HAD 5 TEAMS AT OR ABOVE 500 IN 07 WITH BOYD GOING 3 DEEP IN THE PLAYOFFS
5-4A HAD 3 TEAMS ABOVE 500, SOUNDS TO ME THAT 5-4A JUST GOT TOUGHER BY ADDING TEAMS THAT WON 21 GAMES LAST YEAR. WITH THAT SAID, THAT
WAS LAST YEAR AND NO TEAM HAS WON OR LOST THIS YEAR....

Keep up with the negative comments on Ryan being over rated. It only provides fuel and motivation to the already awakend sleeping giant. "Let them say what they want."

You must be a Ryan coach as much as you seem to know about the program. OrAre you hiding under the bleachers or are you watching from the hill.

I was only using the Dallas Morning News blurb on Frisco as my information. I'll take Lake Dallas and Little Elm over Denison and Sherman any day of the week and twice on Saturday.

TRADITION IN A PROGAM MEANS ALOT TO THE ATTUTIDE OF THE CURRENT PLAYERS IT HELPS BOOST
THEIR CONFIDENCE LEVEL TO THEIR ADVANTAGE ie
(HP/ODESSA MOJO/PLANO/BROWNWOOD TO NAME A FEW)
RYAN HAS THAT OVER MOST OF THE TEAMS THEY WILL
PLAY, IT IS AN ADVANTAGE! THATS ONE OF THE REASONS WHY THEY ARE RANKED HIGH YEAR AFTER YEAR, ALONG WITH TALENT AND A GOOD PROGRAM.

After watching DR dismantle 5A Grapevine in a scrimmage yesterday, DR's #6 ranking may be too low.
