The last time Ryan won its season-opening game was 2004 when the Raiders beat the Highland Park Snots, 21-18. That was also the last year Ryan made it out of the first round of the playoffs. Coincidence? We'll find out. I say with a great deal of confidence that Ryan will win its opener this year - Thursday's bout with Mesquite Poteet at 7 p.m. We'll have to wait a bit to see about the first round. The UIL doesn't have a blank playoff bracket with the new 4A Division I format. Assuming it will be like last year's Division II format, and based on Dave Campbell's Texas Football Magazine predictions, Ryan will play Saginaw in the first round. |

Easy Jeff don't be a Snot or Dragoon and make your San Antonio reservations in December just yet. It's still August and 0 week. I am going to enjoy and savor this season one game at a time.

I want to see how well the defense plays Thursday. After seeing 12 total TD's from the offense in the scrimmages, the defense will dictate how far this team will go.

Texas Preps has DR playing Birdville in the first round of the DI playoffs. Either way, DR should move on to the second round. But, there the party gets serious - Mansfield Timberview will be waiting. Timberview was a 5A playoff team last year and has most of its starters back.

Sherman upsets Timberview so Ryan will meet one of its old foes in round two...
