Getting ready for Guyer's first practice

1:30 PM Mon, Aug 11, 2008 |

So, I'm heading out to Guyer's opening practice of the season here in about three hours, and I already have a handful of things I'm going to be looking for.

Equipment was passed out this morning so they'll get going right away at 5 p.m. and according to head coach John Walsh, the "meat" of the practice will go from 5-6:30 with offensive and defensive work and then special teams and situational stuff will get the rest of practice until 8 p.m.

Follow the jump for what I'm going to be on the lookout for. Let me know if there's anything else I need to be watching for.

Teams getting ready for scrimmages

I thought I'd give you guys a heads up that Ryan's scrimmage against former 5-5A rival Grapevine has been moved from Friday to Saturday, Aug. 16, at Ryan. Freshmen and JV go from 8 to 10 a.m. while varsity starts at 10 a.m.

For all you Bronco, Falcon and Wildcat fans, Denton, Guyer and Lake Dallas won't scrimmage until next weekend as they started practice today.

On that note, here's a run down of all the scrimmages in our area this weekend. All games are on Saturday:

Wichita Falls Hirschi at Sanger, 11 a.m.
Gunter at Pilot Point, 9 a.m.
Argyle at Frisco Centennial, TBA
Van Alstyne at Aubrey, 9 a.m.
Grapevine Faith at Liberty Christian, 9 a.m.

Alton Moss is large, scary

I'm certainly never going to question Alton Moss' dedication to his coach.

Before the end practice today, Ryan head coach Joey Florence needed a minute alone with his team and called for the press, or me, to clear the field. Moss took it upon himself to do so and started barreling after me.

At first I thought he was just going to the sideline for something, but it quickly became clear he was going after me. Do you know how frightening it is to see The Big Sweat, all bazillion cubic meters of him, tumbling down the field after you?
