Denton High School will have over 1600 students, there are schools with 1000 students in the top 10 (football)...get your student athletes participating in athletics.

-- Brady

This is true. Denton coach Randy Patzkowski's former team, Lake Dallas, has the smallest enrollment figures in the district. Lake Dallas has a crowded sideline during its games with quality depth. For some reason, that just isn't the case at Denton, whatever the reason is.

No legs??? Denton High will will have 500 more kids than Stephenville in their school??? More than Dayton...more than Everman..more than Port Lavaca Calhoun...CC Calallen...That is more students than 5 of the top 10 4A schools for football this year...In fact there are 112 schools in 4A smaller than Denton High out of 240..the problem is not the DISD administration, not the opening of a new school, not the tradition rich school across town....please stop whining and go to work!!

I played football for LD in 2005. I would have to agree with Brady here that the game itself can only do so much to bring out the kids, and that the coaching staff has to do the rest. Perhaps Patz should market himself and his program to the students at DHS. My SR in 2005 we had at least 65 varsity player and much more in the JV and Freshmen its all about the Coaches getting the school and students excited about it.

Socio-economic makeup of those schools has a lot to do with it, along with the mindset and priorities/traditions of a community and what they take pride in.

School coaches, teachers, administration, and sponsors can be positive, energetic, fair, and everything else when it comes to extra-curricular activities (and normal classroom achievement too for that matter), but if commitment is not pushed at home, a kid will not stick to a program all the way up.

Also, numbers in high school athletics do not mean everything, but you are foolish if you believe they mean nothing.

Why cant anyone see this? Denton does have alot of people, more than some but when the district allowed free transfers and decided to bus students near to DHS to Guyer, we lost our Athletes. They all wanted to go to a school that used all the districts money for nice equipment. That money was supose to be sent to Denton as well to upgrade our stuff but it did'nt. Thank goodness we finally got money this year though. Anyways, All the athlets transfered to Guyer, thats why they have a ton of athletes and we barely have any. DHS is now filled with few athletes and alot of Students. Ive been around the Program lately and Coach Pats is doing a great job. He is trying to get kids to play but when there aren't many athletes, what can you do? Denton has some of the better teachers in Denton but since Guyer had brand new facilites, Athletes moved and transfered. I also graduated in 05 and then we had alot of people but there wasn't Guyer. Right after it opened, we lost most of the athletes. The district needs to step up and take responsibility for what they did and how they killed DHS athletics
