New quarterbacks bring uncertainty One comment I do think has legs Broncos fighting more than opponents Categories

If you haven't read my story on the situation at Denton High School, take a moment to do so before continuing. No, I'm not trying to engage in some sort of self-promotion. Before judging the Denton Broncos, I believe it is necessary to understand what has happened at the administrative level at the school. Frankly, and sadly, the Broncos likely won't be competitive in many sports this year, particularly football. Denton simply doesn't have the bodies on the field to compete. If you're a 4A team with players playing on both sides of the ball, it's gonna be rough. The Broncos should get an upgrade at quarterback with Hunter Dozier. He's a great athlete with big-game experience in baseball and a strong arm. The rest of the team will be untested and unproven. Randy Patzkowski is a great coach. His staff is doing the best it can with what it has, but frankly, it doesn't have a whole lot. I'm awfully curious -- what do the people of Denton think about this team, this situation and the future of athletics at DHS? Are people angry about it? Is this an issue important to you guys? What will happen with the Broncos on the field this year?

What has been done to DHS is a complete shame.
I am not a DHS parent nor have I ever been. Guyer HS athletics has been built at DHS expense.

Denton High School will have over 1600 students, there are schools with 1000 students in the top 10 (football)...get your student athletes participating in athletics.

I graduated from Denton High School. First (in response to your article) DHS was never close to being 3A. 3A numbers are around 1000. Denton High turned in around 1490. Second, when I was in high school we had roughly the same amount of students that DHS has now. We were competitive in every sport. We only had 25 varsity players my senior year and still won the district championship and made the playoffs in football. I think it is about time for people to stop complaining about numbers and to start working on improvement. The coaches create the atmosphere that gets the athletes to come out. If they create a positive atmosphere, then students will come out for sports. It seems from all the whining and griping about Guyer opening (which opened three years ago) that their isn't a positive atmosphere at DHS.

Denton is on its way up. It may take a few more years but they will be one of the most improved teams in the district if they can weather the storm. A major realignment is about to happen in the DISD High school attendance zone.

Dittos...Josh. I agree. I believe a lower percentage of students than normal for a school of DHS size are involved in athletics and/or other extra curricular activities(see band, orchestra, choir, Fillies etc..) Its a shame more kids are not interested in their school and community. The student body at DHS has become apathetic towards athletics similar to the apathy the Denton community has for UNT Football and its athletics.

Mike hit the nail on the head, very poor participation. What they do have with very few exceptions is small. Will be a wosre year in football than last year, and effect the entire school.
