OK, that was obviously a joke. The Denton Record-Chronicle does not support any type of illegal wagering, especially on high school sports. But without further ado, he's the way District 5-4A football will shape up this season. (Yes, I'm making a prediction on July 18. Sue me, I'm ready for football). First, I will let you folks in on what Dave Campbell's Texas Football 2008 thinks will happen in the district. 1. Wichita Falls Rider Continue reading the jump for the real picks... Here's how I see it, and since I'm right 60 percent of the time, every time, you can count on the season going down as follows: 1. Wichita Falls Rider -- No sane person would argue that the Raiders aren't the best team in the district. Heck, they're one of the best teams in the state. 2. Ryan -- The other Raiders won't have much trouble with the majority of the district, but will be lose to Rider just like last year -- by a large margin. 3. Wichita Falls -- Quarterback Ben Henderson is the real deal. He also gets a lot of his skill players back on offense. The Coyotes kind of snuck up on some folks last year, but they won't have that luxury this time around. I think they're ready for it. 4. Lake Dallas -- I'm not sure why all of you have been spitting venom at Jeff for saying 9-4A wasn't the same as 5-4A. It's not. District 5-4A lost Sherman and Denison, and you won't find a coach in the district last year that wouldn't openly say they were happy about that. The Falcons lost a lot, including stud receiver Alvin Blackmon. But junior QB James Franklin has the makings of something special, and will be just enough to get Lake Dallas a postseason berth. 5. Guyer -- This battle for the fourth playoff spot will be a great, hotly-contested one between three teams. Guyer will just lose out on its first playoff berth after winning just one game in history coming into this season. The Wildcats will be able to open up their offense this year and have two real good running backs returning as well. They will be absolute beasts up front with Kyle Clark and Jesse Coffey, and the same goes for the defensive front. Two words for you: Taylor Bible. 6. The Colony -- I don't understand my good buddy Dave's reasoning for picking The Colony to make the playoffs. The Cougars have the biggest enrollment in the district, but they've been struggling for a long time and finished 3-4 last year in 9-4A. 7. Little Elm -- Boy, talk about losing everyone you have. The Lobos lost all-everything quarterback Cole Beasley, the son of head coach Mike Beasley. They do have six starters returning on offense, but Beasley accounted for so much of it last year both on the ground and in the air, he'll be impossible to replace. Guess how many defensive starters they have coming back. Oh, the answer's zero. They'll be lucky to win two games in district play. 8. Denton -- This is sad to say, but things aren't getting better for the Broncos, as Jeff mentioned in another entry recently. The numbers crunch at the city's flagship has been severe and last year the Broncos were barely able to field a varsity team. They lost their best defensive player (Adam Wilde) and dynamic athlete Adrian Irvin. It'll be fun to see how new QB Hunter Dozier does, but the Broncos will again go winless in district play. So, there it is folks. How do you think things will look come November? Who did I overrate? Underrate? Flat-out forget? I know one thing, I can't wait until the end of August. This will be a fun season with some rivalries being fueled even more (I think you know who I'm talking about). |

You are right on with your predictions and comments although I have Guyer at 4 and Lake Dallas 5. Rider is leaps and bounds ahead of everyone else. Ryan will make a strong run now that it has gotten all of the 5A playoff teams off their preseason. Old High is salty and could challenge Ryan for the #2 spot. Guyer, Lake Dallas and The Colony will compete for the 4th playoff spot and all teams are evenly matched.I predict Guyer will win the fourth playoff spot off of a coin flip because of a three way tie for fourth.

Check your facts Boedeker, Old High is loseing everybody and they will be lucky to finish 4th..How can u say Henderson is getting his offensive weapons back...He lost Anderson WR(Okie. State) a solid RB, and an experienced o-line is no more...Their sub varsitys stink and their entire defense graduated...Unless some of Riders kids went to old high, 08 will be an up and down year...they had better score lots of points, because they will not stop anyone!!!! Henderson had better do a lot of things by himse;f, because their will not be a supporting cast to bail him out this year...

Old will be good, but they have zero depth. 1 injury to a key like the QB, they will be looking up from the bottom with DHS. LD will not beat Guyer, period, too small in the lines.
