Ryan starting safety, reserve quarterback transfer out of school

A potential defensive starter and a back-up quarterback will not be with Ryan when the Raiders open the season against Rockwall.

Junior safety Shemar Coleman and junior quarterback Austin Carter have transferred from the program, multiple sources at Ryan confirmed.

Ryan head coach Dave Henigan declined to comment after Friday’s scrimmage against Grapevine.

Coleman, was anticipated to be a key starter for the Ryan secondary after moving up to the varsity team at the beginning of last season’s playoff run. Coleman had a key interception in the team’s area round victory against Waco Midway. Junior Alan Rojas is expected to take over Coleman’s spot in the starting lineup.

Carter transferred out of the program this past week. I saw him at practice on Tuesday, but his name and Coleman’s name were not on the roster I received on Thursday.

Carter was the candidate for the starting quarterback position. Following the Grapevine scrimmage, Henigan said freshman quarterback Spencer Sanders will be starting for the Raiders on Aug. 29 against Rockwall.
