Pilot Point, Guyer find spots in TGCA state softball polls

Pilot Point and Guyer both cracked this week’s Texas Girls Coaches Association state softball polls.

Pilot Point, the defending Class 2A state champions, is ranked eighth in the latest edition of the polls. Only two teams from Region II are ranked ahead of the Lady Cats (21-5). Hughes Springs (District 16-2A) is ranked third in 2A, while Whitewright (District 11-2A) is ranked seventh, one spot ahead of the current District 12-2A leaders.

Over in Class 4A, Guyer comes in at No. 25. Guyer’s district rival, Azle, is currently enjoying its eighth-place ranking in the Class 4A polls. Fort Worth Brewer is also ranked No. 20 by the TGCA.

Azle is currently undefeated in District 5-4A standings. Guyer, Brewer and Trophy Club Nelson all have a 7-3 record and trail the Lady Hornets by three games.

And as a testament to how difficult Ryan’s District 5-5A slate is, Flower Mound is ranked third in 5A. Lewisville, the defending 5A state champions, is ranked eighth. Ryan is winless in district play.
