Guyer, the defending Class 4A state champion, will play Wichita Falls in the Class 4A Region I girls sectional round of the soccer playoffs at Saginaw’s Rough Rider Stadium, this much we know.
That’s where things get really interesting, however, as Guyer girls coach Kenny Blevins and the Wichita Falls ISD AD decided to make their flip for Thursday or Friday a bit more fun than the usual ZIP code game that’s traditionally employed by coaches “flipping” without a coin in the presence of each other.
Guyer wants to play the game on Thursday, and Wichita Falls wants the game on Friday. The two sides will allow a couple of college basketball teams in Madison Square Garden, a 1,600-mile drive from Rough Rider Stadium, to make the decision for them. As Michigan State and UConn battle it out for a trip to DFW next weekend for the Final Four, their outcome will decide when the teams will play at Saginaw.
If the combined final score of the game, which is at halftime as I type this, is an even number, Guyer wins the flip and the teams will play Thursday. If it’s an odd number, the Lady Coyotes win, and the game is on Friday.
