The Denton Independent School District issued the following press release Sunday regarding the playoff games scheduled for Monday at UNT’s Apogee Stadium.

The release is below:

Ryan, Guyer playoff games  Monday at Apogee Stadium to meet UIL deadline
The University Interscholastic League has issued an extended deadline of Monday, Dec. 9, to complete all football playoff games.
To meet this deadline, the UIL Class 5A and 4A Region I football finals for Ryan High School and Guyer High School have been rescheduled as a doubleheader Monday at UNT’s Apogee Stadium.
Ryan is scheduled to face Cedar Hill in the 5A Region I final at 3 p.m., while Guyer is scheduled to face Birdville in the 4A Region I final at 7:30 p.m.  All previously purchased tickets will be honored at the gate.
The inclement weather that hampered much of North Texas the past few days has forced the postponement of every football playoff game in Region I that was scheduled for Friday or Saturday. UIL rules stipulate a minimum of five days rest between athletic contests, meaning Denton ISD is joining all the other districts still competing in the region in rescheduling these contests by the Monday deadline. UIL officials have said there is currently no plan to extend the deadline past Monday.
After receiving information from the National Weather Service and the Texas Department of Transportation, officials from all three participating school districts – per UIL guidelines – agreed that should weather conditions Monday afternoon improve, as expected, the games would be able to be completed.
As such, the safety of students and staff remains one of the utmost priorities for Denton ISD. With the inclement weather and below freezing temperatures keeping roads hazardous during the early morning hours, district officials closed schools for the regular school day.
Denton ISD encourages anyone who plans to attend the Ryan or Guyer games to drive cautiously, allow plenty of time to arrive at the stadium and travel on main highways and roads, as these are more likely to be cleared of much of the wintery mix the inclement weather brought into the DFW area.
