Halftime thoughts: Ryan 42, Flower Mound 0

If this was a fight, Flower Mound would have been knocked on the canvas a few times in the early rounds before somebody threw the towel in for the Jaguars.

Ryan’s backups played the final defensive series of the first half because the Raiders are winning 42-0 against Flower Mound in the regular season finale.

This has been a drubbing. Tyrone Williams has nine carries for 103 yards and three touchdowns. Maurice Gordon has eight carries for 100 yards and a touchdown on a 66-yard scamper right before the half.

Ryan’s racked up 229 of its 282 yards on the ground. Flower Mound quarterback Connor Wanhanen has really struggled throwing the ball. He’s 6-for-16 for 92 yards and two interceptions.

Wanhanen’s costliest throw was on a third-and-goal. Ryan linebacker Cole Carpenter picked off the ball and ran it back 98 yards for a touchdown. Based on the records we have, it might be the longest interception returned for a touchdown in school history. The previous record was Cass Starks’ 90-yard INT return against Frisco in 2000.

Yeah, it’s been a while.

Don’t expect the starters to play in the second half. Ryan should rest their first-string players for next week’s game against either Colleyville Heritage and Hurst Bell. Heritage leads 35-10 at halftime.
