Halftime thoughts: Ryan 23, Lewisville 0

Any doubts of how the Ryan Raiders was going to respond after their first loss were quickly dispelled tonight at C.H. Collins tonight.

Ryan has dominated Lewisville and leads the Fighting Farmers 23-0. This hasn’t been close, and were it not for a costly penalty and another fumble near the Lewisville goal line, this game could easily be at least 33-0. But, Ryan fans will have to settle for a 23-point lead going into halftime.

Ryan has controlled the line of scrimmage, and I’ve got Ryan down for at least three sacks through the first two quarters.

Lewisville might be without starting quarterback Matt McDougal in the second half. After Lewisville got the ball after an interception, Ryan’s Alex Funches ran through McDougal’s back (possibly a little late) as Sekou Clark was tackling McDougal. McDougal crumpled onto the turf, and it looks as if Clark was hit with a personal foul for either standing over McDougal or for taunting. It was hard to tell.

Either way, it might not matter. Ryan took full control after Marc Orozco hit Ken Mclaurin on a well-executed fake field goal pass for a touchdown.

After Orozco lined up for a 37-yard field goal, holder Shomari Cann flipped the ball to Orozco, who rolled left and fired a strike to Mclaurin to put Ryan ahead 14-0 with 6:11 left in the first quarter.

Ryan closed the first quarter with a 17-0 lead after outgaining Lewisville 135 to 1.

135 to 1.

That’s how it’s been tonight. I’d expect the backups to come in fairly quickly in the second half.
