AT&T Stadium to host Class 5A area playoff games for Districts 5-5A, 6-5A, 7-5A, 8-5A

The Class 5A area round playoff games between teams from Districts 5-5A, 6-5A, 7-5A and 8-5A will be played at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, multiple officials said on Wednesday.

Denton ISD athletic director Ken Purcell said district officials will draw for potential times for a quadrupleheader on Saturday, Nov. 23 involving the four districts prior to the first week of the playoffs.

Purcell will most likely take off his black Resistol hat, place four pieces of paper with the times and then pass the hat around as the officials draw for potential times in the area round of games.

AT&T Stadium is the current home of the Dallas Cowboys. Playing high school playoff games at the home of the Cowboys has been an annual tradition. All the University Interscholastic League state championship games will be played there this season on Dec, 14, and from Dec.19 to Dec. 21.

Last year, the playoff teams from District 5-5A and District 6-5A played their bi-district games in a quadrupleheader on Saturday of the first week of the playoffs. Ryan defeated Hurst Bell to advance to a matchup against Cedar Hill in the area round of the 5A Division II playoffs.

This year, Texas Tech faces Baylor on Nov. 16 at AT&T Stadium, so the bi-district games will not be played there this season.

The home of the Cowboys will be available for high school games from Nov.21 to Nov. 23, according to a stadium official.
