While everybody was readjusting to life after the long weekend, former Ryan LB Alex De La Torre dropped by the Ryan football fieldhouse before he heads back to Austin soon.
On his hand, De La Torre rocked the spoils of Texas’ 31-27 victory over Oregon State in the Alamo Bowl last winter, a ring some people balked at for winning the Alamo Bowl. But hey, it looks pretty sweet.
De La Torre, was a member of one of Ryan’s most heralded graduating classes, a class that included one of the nation’s top recruits, Florida State defensive end Mario Edwards.
The former Ryan standout earned recognition in high school as a linebacker on Ryan but earned some plays at fullback during his freshman year at Austin. He played in seven games, saw some time at special teams and only accumulated one tackle on the season.
While the stats going to blow anybody away, it’s still impressive for a kid with three years to go.
But until he gets a little more shine in the backfield or on special teams, enjoy a few glimpses of the ring. I would call it ‘bling’ but it’s no longer 2004.
