That’s the ballgame. Ryan wins 31-28 and will play Cedar Hill next Saturday at 2 p.m. at Southlake Carroll.
With 1:28 left and Bell only with one timeout, that’s should be it. Fans are filing out of the Bell side. The Ryan fans aren’t budging.
On 4th and 9, Desmond Oliver and Alex Funches swallow Romano in the backfield. Romano fumbled and Ryan will take over on the Bell 24.
Now it’s Ryan with the timeout. Bell has 4th and 9 at its 26 with 1:36 left. On the previous play, Bell tried to go deep and it looked like Devante Thomas got away with a holding call and the pass went incomplete.
Bell calls its second timeout with 1:42 left. The Blue Raiders have 3rd and 9 at the Bell 26. The Bell side is full and seated, a few Ryan fans are standing throughout the visitors side.
And the field goal is good! Daniel Telaneus scoops a bad snap off the turf, and Orozco calmly nails the 41-yard FG and Ryan leads 31-28 with 2:24 left.
Pass goes incomplete. Ryan’s going to attempt a 41-yard FG.
Bell burns its first timeout with 2:35 left in the game. Ryan’s facing 3rd and 11 at the Bell 24. It’s another exciting Ryan game. Go figure.
finds Trent Willis for 20 yards and a first down at the Bell 23. Willis almost went all the way but was dragged down from behind.
Bridges breaks off a huge 27-yard run down the left sidelines, and Ryan has first and 10 at the Bell 42.
It’s tied again. Bell’s Ryan Newsome takes a draw out of the Wildcat formation up the middle for a 46-yard TD with 5:19 left. Game’s tied 28-28.
Touchdown! On 3rd and 8 at the Bell 30, Bridges lofts a deep ball up for Trent Willis. Willis turns in mid air, does a full spin, catches the ball and tiptoes just inside the orange marker for the touchdown. The TD pass gives Ryan the lead. Ryan 28, Bell 21, 7:49 left in the game.
Ryan calls timeout with 9:17 left in the game. 3rd and 4 at the Bell 37. Ryan’s had success throwing the ball against Bell’s secondary. Ryan hasn’t depended on the pass much at all this year, and Bridges is playing with an injured knee.
Ryan’s driving right now. Bridges finds Kevin Ray for a big 26 yard gain. Ryan’s moved the ball down to the Bell 45. 9:51 left in the game, Ryan leads 21-21.
Bell can’t capitalize. Bell goes three-and-out and punts the ball. Ryan takes over on its 20. 10:32 left in the game.
On 4th and 10 at its own 37, Ryan head coach Joey Florence opts for the fake punt and it fails miserably. Cole Carpenter scrambled and couldn’t find anyone to throw the ball to, and it gets tackled for a 2-yard loss. Bell takes over on the Ryan 35 for its first drive of the fourth quarter.
Wow. On the PAT attempt, Ryan defensive ends J.T. Williams and Sekou Clark were fighting and they had to be restrained by their teammates. Ryan whistled for offsides.
Bell responds right back with a touchdown. Bell QB Colson Romano finds Aaron Dixon for a 26-yard pass with :30 seconds left in the third quarter. Bell had three plays on that drive that were greater than 10 yards, including a pass interference on Ryan.
Touchdown! On 4th and 3, Ryan’s Reynal Caldwell takes a pitch to the left side after a fake handoff had Bell’s entire defense going to the right. Caldwell strolls in the end zone and Ryan leads 21-14 with 2:06 left in the third.
Bell tried to attempt a fake field goal from 40 yards out on 4th and 6. Ryan LB Corbin Forest didn’t bite and forced an incomplete pass. Ryan takes over on its 22, 2:34 left in the third.
Ryan’s running game couldn’t get anything going on that drive, and Bridges was sacked for a 10 yard loss at the Ryan 5. Marc Orozco then shanked the punt and Bell takes over on the Ryan 26. 4:44 left in the third.
Bell QB Colson Romano found Nathan Gillard for a key 17 yard catch. Then Ryan’s defensive line started bringing some pressure on Romano and forced three straight incompletions. Bell punted and Ryan takes over on its 16. 7:03 left in the third.
Ryan did nothing on that drive. Mitchell Bridges got sacked for 12 yards on 2nd and 10 and that virtually ended the drive. Bell starts on its own 33, score still tied at 14.
3Q 10:29: Ryan’s Reynal Caldwell’s 64-yard punt return for a TD was called back because of a block in the back. Ryan instead will start at its own 40.
