Regular season comes to an end tonight

The 2012 high school football regular season comes to an end tonight across the state and around the Denton area and there is still a lot to be decided.

Ryan needs a victory at Flower Mound tonight to earn a berth in the Class 5A playoffs and keep a 12-year streak alive of postseason appearances.

Guyer has already clinched the District 5-4A title and will be at Fort Worth Brewer tonight in its final tune-up before the playoffs open next week. Denton will wrap up its season at home tonight against Byron Nelson.

Argyle and Krum have secured berths in the playoffs but Argyle will be in Celina tonight to meet the Bobcats with the winner claiming the 10-3A crown. Krum wrapped up the regular season last week with a 9-1 ledger and will meet the Celina-Argyle loser in the first round of the playoffs.

Lake Dallas will trying to secure a berth but the Falcons’ path to the playoffs is complicated.┬áLake Dallas (5-4, 3-3) gets in with a win and a Trophy Club Byron Nelson loss. If Nelson and Lake Dallas win, there will be a three-way tie between those schools and Azle. In this district, once it goes to points, it stays at points. If Lake Dallas beats Azle by 12 or more points, Lake Dallas and Nelson are in. If Lake Dallas beats Azle by 5 points or less, Azle and Nelson are in. If Lake Dallas beats Azle by 6 to 11 points, Azle and Lake Dallas advance.

And then there is Pilot Point. The Bearcats need help to make it into the Class 2A playoffs because they finished the regular season last week. Pilot Point (7-3, 4-2) needs a Bowie (6-3, 2-3) victory over Callisburg (8-1, 4-1) to make the playoffs. If Callisburg beats Bowie, Callisburg will win the district championship. If Bowie beats Callisburg, Callisburg will miss the playoffs and Boyd, Whitesboro and Pilot Point would advance.
