Ryan-Hebron: Late afternoon musings

We’re a few hours until kick-off in tonight’s District 5-5A contest between Hebron and Ryan, and the more I think about it, I’m beginning to think this game could be more even than people expect.

Ryan (3-2, 1-0) played its best all-around game of the season in an 18-6 victory over Flower Mound Marcus last week. Granted, Marcus was reduced down to third-string quarterback Ryan Vaughn, who’s listed as a linebacker on the roster. The Raiders virtually shut down Marcus RB Mark Demery and only allowed a touchdown in the win.

Once again, the Raiders will be facing a short-handed team. Per The Dallas Morning News’ Corbett Smith, Hebron senior running back Dezmond Wortham¬†will be out this week after missing last week’s game against Coppell.

Wortham is considered one of the best running backs in the area, and based on this footage, it’s not hard to see why (pardon the annyoing intro to the video.)

Last week against Coppell, Hebron (3-3, 0-1) was outgained 379-75¬†in a 29-3 loss. That’s also says volumes about Coppell’s defense, which has only allowed more than 10 points all season, and one of those times was against Coppell’s offense.

Like almost all of Ryan’s games this season, this should be a very entertaining game that hopefully comes down to the final quarter.
