UPDATE (1:50 p.m.) That’s a day for J.W. Walsh with just over a minute left in the third quarter and a 58-10 lead over the Ragin’ Cajuns. Walsh finishes the day 20-of-29 passing for 339 yards, 4 passing TDs and one rushing TD. Two of his passing TDs went to Josh Stewart, his best friend, roommate and former Guyer teammate. Walsh 73 rushing yards on six carries. Next up, the Texas Longhorns at home in two weeks.
UPDATE: (12:30 p.m.) TV folks just said Lunt’s injury not as serious as originally thought. Should be out 2-3 weeks.
It didn’t come the way anyone would’ve wanted it to, but it appears former Guyer standout J.W. Walsh is going to be the man under center for the Oklahoma State Cowboys for the foreseeable future. On the Cowboys’ first drive in today’s game against Louisiana-Lafayette, true freshman Wes Lunt was hit below the waist and appears to have suffered a blown out knee of some sort. He left the field on crutches.
That means Walsh, the redshirt freshman is in the game and he’s having a quite a go at it so far. He’s thrown for a TD, had a big run on a third-down conversion and just threw another TD to give OK State a 31-0 lead in the second half, as I type this. Two great passes from Walsh on that drive.
As of now, midway through the second quarter, Walsh is 5-of-8 for 139 yards and two touchdowns and has two runs for 19 yards.
If you want to tune in, the game is being broadcast on Fox Sports Southwest.
