‘Twas the night before Football 2012

It’s about that time again.

In a little over 24 hours, we’ll resume a tradition that takes place every fall, a tradition that’s been over-dramatized year after year.

Tomorrow marks the beginning of the high school football season, with Richardson Pearce playing Lake Dallas in a locally-televised game, while Guyer squares off against Cedar Hill in a battle of future Division I quarterbacks.

And to celebrate the occasion, the Denton Record-Chronicle’s Football 2012 will be in tomorrow’s issue of the paper, so be sure to pick that up. According to our director of sports Larry McBride, we’ve been doing the special section for at least the past 37 years.

This year’s theme is “New Directions,” with realignment pushing schools up and down the classification ladder and North Texas readying itself for the jump from the Sun Belt Conference to Conference USA.

The cover has UNT head coach Dan McCarney, Denton head coach Kevin Atkinson, Guyer head coach John Walsh and Ryan head coach Joey Florence.

Along with a preview of UNT and the Sun Belt, we preview all 12 of our local high schools. This year’s edition is a whopping 92 pages, making it the biggest edition we’ve ever put out.

It’s probably the best 50 cents you’re going to spend all year.
