Edwards Sr. joins son, hired by Florida State

This can probably be filed under old news/something that flew under the radar.

According to ESPN and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Mario Edwards Sr. has been hired by his alma mater Florida State to become the school’s new director of player development.

The Edwards family moved from Prosper to Denton after Edwards Sr. was hired by Ryan in 2010 to become an assistant coach under Joey Florence. Mario Edwards Jr. was a consensus top 5 recruit in the nation (No.1 according to ESPN) and played at Ryan for two years and graduated this year.

In his story, David M. Hale discusses the murky matters of hiring a recruit’s family members. The comments on the AJC post are full of people bickering over the legality of the situation.

Whatever the case, it’s a really good situation for the Edwards family, and if everything works out like it’s supposed to, Edwards Jr. will follow his father’s footsteps and move on to the pros after his time in Tallahassee.
