After signing with the New York Yankees, Argyle’s Austin Aune has a little extra spending cash.
According to Jim Callis of Baseball America, Aune received a $1 million bonus for signing with the Yankees. That’s well over the $548,400 slot recommendation for the 89th overall pick of the draft.
Aune had originally planned on attending TCU for football and baseball, but the lofty signing bonus led the Argyle graduate to pursue his dreams of playing professional baseball. With the Yankees spending that much on Aune, it means the Yankees have less money to spend on the rest of their Top 10 draft picks or face penalties from the MLB.
Aune, who was drafted on June 5 in the second round as an outfielder, is likely headed to the Yankees’ team in the Gulf Coast League. The team’s first game is on June 18.
