(This is updated as of Friday morning with all the current scenarios.)
Today is the final day of the regular season for all the baseball teams in District 4-4A. Ryan plays at home versus Little Elm, while Wichita Falls plays WF Rider.
All four playoff teams are collectively separated by one game, setting up for what might be one of the craziest season finales in a long, long time.
With Ryan and Wichita Falls tied for the 4-4A lead, there are four possible scenarios to see determine playoff seeding and the district champion.
First let’s start with the district standings:
T-1. Wichita Falls 8-3
T-1. Ryan 8-3
3. Lake Dallas 8-4
4. WF Rider 7-4
With that in mind, here’s what could potentially happen this weekend.
Scenario #1: If Ryan wins and Wichita Falls loses, then the standings finish as follows — 1. Ryan 2. Wichita Falls 3. WF Rider 4. Lake Dallas
Scenario #2: If Ryan and Wichita Falls both win — both teams will play on Saturday for either the district championship and/or the No.1 seed. The game will be at 2 p.m. at Hoskins Field at Wichita Falls. Lake Dallas finishes third and Rider fourth.
Scenario #3: If Ryan loses and Wichita Falls wins — Wichita Falls wins the district. Ryan and Lake Dallas will play for the No. 2 seed on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Ryan.
Scenario #4: If Ryan and Wichita Falls both lose — Ryan, Wichita Falls, Lake Dallas and Rider will be considered co-district champions.
The seeding for the playoffs were determined by coin flip and is as follows:
1. Wichita Falls 2. Ryan 3. Lake Dallas 4. Rider
All the District 4-4A teams will play the District 3-4A teams in the bi-district round of the playoffs.
Ryan plays Little Elm at home today at 7:30 p.m. Wichita Falls plays Rider at home at 7:30 p.m.
It’ll definitely make for one frantic finish.
